2019 NAPA Reference Guide

The extended service additives in these filters are a patented combination of a controlled solubility, time release coating on the additive pellets and a diffusion orifice to slowly released additives during extended service intervals without adding harmful contaminants to the cooling system. The additives in E.S.I. filters are especially designed to only replace additives depleted with system operation. This minimizes the total dissolved solids (TDS) level in cooling systems. Lower TDS results in better heat transferability of the coolant, reduced water pump leakage and a lower potential for metal pitting corrosion. NAPA also offers two other part numbers for coolant system maintenance. The additives in these two part numbers are more closely related to traditional DCA type SCAs and are designed to replace the slow release (“need”) filters. These part numbers are 4088 and 4089. Their design and componentry contains the same durability the E.S.I. filters do. The 4088 can be added to any coolant system by using our part number 4019 add-on coolant filter mounting base kit. Although E.S.I. technology extends the time between actual service intervals, we highly recommend the periodic physical testing of the coolant to insure the required levels of additive protection is present and the overall condition of the coolant is acceptable for continued use. Periodic additive level protection is accomplished by simply using our 3-way test strips, part number 4105, 4106 or 4107. This type of testing should be done a minimum of two times during the normal E.S.I. service intervals of 1 year, 150,000 miles or 4000 hours of use. A full coolant analysis should be done every 3 years, 450,000 miles or 12,000 hours of service to determine if the coolant is still acceptable for continued use or if the system should be drained, cleaned, flushed and re-charged with E.S.I. additives. An easy to use coolant analysis kit is available from your local NAPA Filters District Sales Manager. Coolant Products Description and Application Guide Part Number Thread Size Filter Height (In.)
