Pena’s Top-Ten Finish at Five Flags Speedway

Roseville, Calif. Sergio Pena and the No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota team took part in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East inaugural race at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.

After two practice sessions on race day, Pena would qualify the NAPA Toyota on the outside of row four for the NAPA AUTO PARTS “150”.

Quick off the line at the start of the race, Pena was p5 by lap six. When the first of two cautions came out at lap 48, the No. 16 NAPA Toyota was in eleventh. There was a mandatory halfway break at lap 75 where teams could get fresh Goodyear tires and make minor adjustments.

At the restart, Pena moved in to tenth and by lap 85 he was shown on the scoring pylon in eighth. The second and final caution of the race came at lap 135 with a car spinning on the front stretch. Pena would bring home the No. 16 NAPA Toyota in eighth.

“We had quite an eventful weekend in Pensacola,” said Pena. “Practice didn’t go too great on Saturday leading up to the race, but the guys never gave up and we were able to qualify in 8th.”

“I had a lot of fun side-by-side racing with some of the other drivers but the NAPA Toyota Camry was just a little too free to make any ground on the leaders. 8th wasn’t what we were looking for, but I think we made the most of the weekend with what we had.”

“It was great to have our NAPA sponsor at the race and I had a blast giving some of the NAPA customers rides in the 2-seater car. I can’t wait to get back to racing in Stockton!”

BMR and the NAPA Toyota team would like to thank their race partner NAPA AUTO PARTS for sponsoring the NAPA AUTO PARTS “150”. NAPA store owners, employees and customers came out to cheer for their team making the two-day event at the home of the “Snowball Derby” a success.

Pena and the No. 16 NAPA Toyota team return to racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West at the historic Stockton 99 Speedway May 4th. Pena is less than ten points out of the top spot in the chase for the 2013 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West championship and looks to close the gap at the ¼-mile track in Stockton, Calif.
